GDD / Game Guide

The following document is a sort of GGD that can also be used as help in case a player gets stuck. This is what the game was intended to play like, but due to the nature of game jams, the value balancing may be off.

Introduction:
Sail through a vast, unpredictable ocean, braving a fierce storm that pushes your vessel to its limits. Battle the elements as you make urgent repairs, pump out rising water, and fight to keep your course steady as you navigate northward, determined to reach your destination

Objective:
Sail in a Northerly heading without much deviation. The northern you go, the worse the weather, and thus the more repairs you'll have to do to your boat to keep it afloat. Engine failures and water leaks will occur more often, and it'll be harder to keep a Northerly heading.

Dynamic weather system:
The weather changes dynamically (sun/cloud coverage, wave intensity, water color, winds and increased ship roll). Also the worse the weather the quicker systems fail and its harder to sail.

Systems:

1. Heading
Adjust the heading in the Ships bridge by pressing [ Q ] and [ E ] to move left and right.
The harsher the weather, the more difficult it will be to keep your heading. If the ships engine gets damaged the ship will travel at 1/4th of its top speed, until it gets repaired. You can identify engine damage by sparks and abnormal operation noise. If the engine overflows with water (emerged competently under water) the ships speed will become zero and the player will be unable to move / loose.

2. Repairing water leaks
Water leaks occur in the hull of the ship (accessible by the lower deck), and can be repaired with [ E ].
The longer they stay unpaired and the more of them they are, the quicker the water will rise in the lower deck, making it harder to remove it. Too much water accumulation will permanently damage the ships engine, resulting to a game loss.

3. Pumping out water
To remove accumulated water from leaks occurred in the lower deck, a bucket can be used by pressing [ F ] standing near the water surface.
To drain the water from the bucket, pure it into the ocean by going near a railing. You can perform repairs while carrying a bucket of water.

4. Repairing the engine
To repair the engine when damaged, press [ E ], while standing near it.
You can identify engine damage by looking at its sparks, listening to a change in engine noise pitch, or look at the back of the ship, seeing the trailing water pushed out by the engine moving slower. The engine has a higher chance to get damaged the worse the weather, as it has to operate under more stress. Once the engine gets completely submerged underwater, it will be permanently damaged, and unrepeatable.

Story [ SPOILERS ]
The weather gets worse as you sail up North due to a giant tsunami heading your way, At the final moments the player sees the giant tsunami and the screen fades to black. The ending screen shows tranquil waters and a few parts, broken off the vehicle.

Thanks for playing!
